#1: It's raining. Yay! #2: I don't have to walk today. #3: I may get sushi for lunch. Or soup. see: the world, my oyster. #4: I have a new Paste CD to listen to. #5: Read a very hot and hilarious Stephen Colbert/Steve Carrell fic this morning by annakovsky It must be read, people. #6: I dreamed about a mix of Scrubs and Friday Night Lights and it worked. IT WORKED. Speaking of FNL...


I love being confrontational in cut-tags. Hahaha. Ha. Just me? Okay, then. So, the show is KICKING MY BUTT with how much I love it. First, we have how REAL it is.

Matt Saracen and his shit life. It is. It is SHIT. His dad is in a horrible war (where is his mom??) and has not a lot of faith in him - it didn't seem like they connect, right? His grandma is practically a 24/7 job (oh, her crying and hiding against his neck "Don't let anyone see me, Matt!" "I won't Grandma."), and he's a KID. But god, is he a great kid. He can't think when Julie is around (I aww'd so many times last night...) he wear COWBOY BOOTS and jeans (*points to self* Texan. That totally works for me.) and stammers when he's nervous, he automatically thinks he's no good, but he KEEPS ON TRYING. And it still doesn't matter. Yep, just like real life. I can't express how much I love that this show pulls no punches. A typical show would have him get the starting position. Because the coach believes in him. Which... I think he kind of does. Like, Coach Taylor thinks that Saracen could be a decent QB in a few years.

But let's face it - this town has the coach by the short hairs, and VooDoo is friggin' amazing. And a complete asshole. Which is totally how it would be.

And how great is it that the quadriplegic b-ball player snickered at Lyla's unsureness at shaking his stump? Pulls no punches. I love this show.

OH. Realism: the coach and his wife bickering under the table (and how great is Taylor's ass? Rawr.) during the party, and her saying she'll just stay down there for a few more minutes until she can pop up with a smile on her face like he needs, and I HAVE BEEN UNDER THAT TABLE SAYING THE SAME THING. And while Mr. S has a nice ass, it's not Coach Taylor nice. Hahaha.

Matt and Julie are the cutest thing ever and make me so VERY GLAD that I am not dating, because that nervousness and awkwardness and "how do I say something and not sound like an idiot?" part of my life is OVER. Except for the not saying something and coming off like an idiot, because that is genetic with me. But his smile at the dance recital? (And Coach's realization that he gave this kid permission to hit second base with his daughter unknowingly? Hahahaha. I loved the shot of him hugging Julie tight and giving Matt a warning look. Awesome.)

Can I just get this out: boys moaning make Stoney go BOOM. Oh my fucking god, Tim Riggins MOANING "Lyla" with need and there's your pantyfan moment, RIGHT THERE oh my dear god. It's been pretty obvious (to me at least) that Tim's crushed on Lyla since the pilot. She's the good girl he doesn't deserve. She'll grow up and be Jason's mom - sweet, loving, taking stray ducklings under her wing and giving them much needed mothering and love - and she's a bright, clean star. And for Lyla, he has legs. He has a future. And he's warm and there and probably grinds his crotch gently against hers while they were on her bed, and Jason has too much respect for her, but Tim WANTS her, it's not just her being there for someone and his lips are full and his hands....

I'm sorry, drifted off for a minute. I'd want to make out with Tim, but I'd want to end up with Matt. And never tell Matt that I'd made out with Tim. ...could someone write me a reality check? Make it out to "Get a life, Stoney." Thaaaaaaanks.

In conclusion, the show rocks. I'll probably amend this post after lunch to include the dl file for the ep and maybe screencaps, for those who want. WATCH FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.

#7: I'm having a good hair day IN SPITE OF THE RAIN, #8: am planning on sitting at the ol' PC and do some WRITING, which makes me happy.

OH MY GOD, MATT. I have a screencap of him watching Julie at school in dance class? (Damn. She looked good there. The actual recital made me nervous with the lame. Just like ALL dance recitals.) and he's got NERVOUS FOOT TILT. In COWBOY BOOTS.

Yes, I'm that easy. And I snickered at the Book Club moms checking out Coach's ass while he was on all fours under the table. Because I was totally doing the same thing. Hahahaha. YUM. (Him with the half-unbuttoned shirt putting on deoderant? WHY WAS THAT SO HOT??)

I was so glad that the recital was lame. I was scared to death they were going to be a competition level dance team and if that was the case, it wouldn't have been a recital, it would have been a competition. Yay FNL for realism, even if the lack of hispanic kids and clothing is out of price range. He was so adorable in that scene I was hand flapping. Because the Coach is the sexiest man on TV since ... hell I don't even know since.

I nearly started crying when Matt just kept hitting the car with the bat. And then the conversation with his dad, and the problems with his Grandma, it just nearly broke me.

And I just love all the scenes between Matt and Coach Taylor. That bit in the car? So perfect. Oh! And I have to say that although I felt bad for the team being forced to run around the bleachers, I was so happy that no one gave up the names of who was there.

And I seriously want to throw something at Buddy Garrity for just being so creepy.

And Tim!Lyla! reworked itself in my head. *nods* She wasn't there. But I was. ;)

Gah, this episode was just awesome and made me want the next one RIGHT NOW. I loved how just knowing someone thinks he can do something was all Matt needed. And how talking like that with Matt helped Taylor realize how hard his wife's job is. And how hot they were kissing backstage. Heh.

But I didn't get a M*A*S*H prompt, and I really wanted one. But Scrubs is fine! I'm laughing pretty hard at the concept... Which Mr. S helped me come up with! Ha. He's a fanboy.)

And it's just so . . . southwest football. I mean, I knew those kids, the football stars and ones for whom it really was the only way out, and I remember towns that shut down on game day. Stores would close and the entire town would turn out for the game. My hometown had two high schools, so it wasn't quite as bad because the energy was kind of split between them, but the surrounding area? Craziness.

I expect to have my own real commentary at some point, but I have to watch again (I had my laptop and was working as I watched and then eating dinner, but I saw the ep). I love Matt. I felt so much for him last night. Having Tim and Smash tell him to come with (which was great, because that's the kind of confidence he needs from his teammates -- I loved Tim at that moment) and then going and just losing his control and letting out all his pent up frustration. Oh, my heart was breaking.

Connie telling Coach that he needs to listen to the kids. And Coach telling Matt that he knows what's wrong, but really not knowing at all. And then Matt still being able to call him from the hospital and Coach picking him up and taking him to the recital!! I just died. I was so happy, Stoney. So very, very happy.

The Lyla/Tim stuff? OMG. So hot. I just ... yeah. So much more to talk about. Later. I'll rewatch and make my own post. Promise.

Did you watch the deleted scene at nbc.com? Weight room. Voodoo spotting Tim. Tension. And totally feeding my future Tim/Smash locker room sex fantasies. *ahem* Going back to work now.

As before, pretty much everything about the show works just fine for me. Liked the "so you've got some fight in you after all" scene with the roommate - who is either just an asshole or is giving Jason Street the tough love he never got before because he always did everything right, and how do you rip into a kid like that...

Also, am curious as to what the deal/backstory is on Tyra - want to see more of what she's about. The scene with her and street was good. And yeah, Coach and CoachWife rock.

The acting and script on this show rule.

AGREED to both acting and writing mentions from you. It's just wonderful. And yeah - I like that Tyra isn't so cut and dried, is she? She's not just the town whore, or a whore with a heart of gold. I want to know more backstory on all these characters, always a good sign.

(And seriously: Coach and Connie are a freaking fantastic TV marriage. And hot. And fun to watch.)
