Okay, this has gone beyond my meager capabilities. I have a video clip, it's a .vob file. I have VLC player. I want to take a portion of the .vob file and rip a song in that time stamp, so I have an .mp3 of it. Follow me?

I have searched high and low and have used all sorts of tips I've found, but I just get an "access" file that is almost a gig, the size of the original .vob file.

I have the time stamps and the chapter info (chpt 9, time 0:57:02 to 0:58:29) but I can't get the song to rip. Can anyone help a sistah out? Should I just not use VLC then? Help me flist, you're my only hope.

GOT IT! MPEG_Streamclip was the all in one solution. YAY!! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea for the solution.

And in keeping with the theme: dammit, mom, I've got my headgear on!

Follow me?

No. Sacrifice a goat, what would I know.

You are super helpful right now, thank you! Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, (telling me where your heart went) I realize that killing small (but delicious) farm animals clears the mind.

And the sinuses. Who knew?

If you sacrifice a goat, or a son, god will bestow on you a computer miracle, or alternatively dinner and a jail sentance.

1. Use one of these (http://www.download.com/1770-2001_4-0.html?query=vob+convert&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads) to convert the vob file to an avi file.

2. Use WMM or Avidemux (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/) to split the AVI file to just the portion with the song.

3. Use one of these (http://www.download.com/1770-2001_4-0.html?query=rip+video+sound&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads) to rip the sound from the AVI file with just the song.

If that doesn't work, I am useless. I've never tried to do this before, but if I were trying, that's the steps I would take. If it doesn't work, sorry *ducks objects*

Okay, I'm going to hold out for a less complicated series of steps (tchuh - if it even exists!) and if I can't figure out how to use what I've got, I am doing everything you've said.

And THANK YOU: linking me to all of that stuff was a lot of effort, and I appreciate it!

It is pretty complicated. And a lot of trouble to get one song. I'm assuming you've checked the iTunes store and the LJ uploading/requesting comms? You'd be amazed at the obscure stuff you can find at some of the comms.

You're welcome :`

Well, it's a song that's on the soundtrack to a movie I'm in, and it's by a local band, and it's not anywhere. And the editor of the movie (that is the only one with the audio) is out of the country, woe.

So. I kinda have to do all the steps, but again: THANK YOU. I'm going to feed my face, and the chillin's faces, and then Imma start all these steps you've kindly shown me.

Ahh, I gotcha :(

Here's hoping it works. Like I said, I've never tried it. I'm on a Mac otherwise I'd test it out before I let you go through all of that. Mac would be even more complicated if it makes you feel any better. There's a lot less freeware options.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for ya.

I got a tip from soundingsea at the bottom of this post and it worked perfectly, one file to download and install, and badda boom!

Thanks for being the first person to step up with a solution, though.

Check out the comment from soundginsea - it worked like a champ. No conversion needed. It took the file I had and spit out what I wanted. YAY!!!

...This might as well be in some obscure ancient language, because I probably would've understood about the same amount. I can't help you with this one, but good luck.

MPEG Streamclip will do this in one step. Open vob, set in/out times, export to MP3.

No prob. If you can't get it working, send me the vob with like yousendit or megaupload and I'll do it for you.

I got it! It took me a sec to figure out how to set the in/out times, but now that I know what to do, I am an unstoppable force!!

Thanks so much!!
