Porn. Wait, no, fast transmission and sharing of information!
  • Attn: Kindle readers! Did you know that a company is making really slick covers to fit your Kindle 1 and 2? I didn't! And they're under 50 bucks and are gen-you-wine real leather. Pretty! I prefer the cobalt blue or the mocha with camel strap. <3
  • Attn: wanna be Kindle owners! You can own a cheaper eReader right now instead of waiting in line! You won't have free wireless or the upcoming Whispersync of the Kindle, but you can have an eReader that's less expensive and hosts formats of books the Kindle doesn't! For $300 US bucks, it's yours. That link also takes you to loads of eBooks to peruse, as well. [eta] I've been told they are fragile and the warranty is a MUST. All the more reason to stick with a Kindle, imo.
  • Want homemade biscuits, but don't have loads of ingredients? Check out these TWO INGREDIENT biscuits. No, really. Self-rising flour + cream = biscuits!

Wanna do something for people you love/internet love on Valentine's Day? [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn hosts a Love Fest every V-Day. Here's how it works, and remember: it's about SHARING love. But because good things come to those who wait, you just might get some love back.
  • Email her at svmadelyn@yahoo.com by 12 noon CST, 2-12-09 with an alphabetized list of people on the internet that you love.
  • Say something lovely about them, such as: username is the nicest, funniest person with a heart of gold! or what have you.
  • You can comment on up to 14 people.
  • On the 14th, her journal will link to a website that has an alphabetized list of all the folks that got "valentines" and you can search for your name, or just read about all your friends and feel joy for some folks that could probably use a nice day.

This is about sharing your love for others, so the way I see it, it's a win/win!

ION: I am determined to not be a lazy git today and accomplish many house cleaning chores, outdoor happiness now that the storms have passed and the sun is out, and some bread baking. I need some kind of brownie-type goodness, too, so feel free to link me/c&p your favorite hand to mouth dessert item in comments. (Hahaha, DANCE FOR ME!) :D Oh, let's not kid ourselves. I'm going to write a Choose your Own Adventure parody fic and never get out of my pajamas, I'm sure. NO! I WILL BE DILIGENT! ...send recipes.

...and energy bars.

[eta] I seriously think Facebook needs to change its name to "Ghost Of Boyfriend Past." There are some dudes that I just don't need to remember. Especially when time isn't kind to them, yikes.

[eta2] i know, I'm being a spazz, but this video is BEAUTIFUL as is the song, and the coolest thing is that it was directed by one of the production crew for St. Nick, my movie that premieres at SXSW in March. Way to go, Toby! I love it.

WARNING: I had a Cybook and I found them unbelievably fragile - I actually had TWO and the screens of both of them cracked within 3 months. So if people get the Booksonboard offer, I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend getting the warranty as well.

PS. I have tons more to say about this but MUST FINISH PACKING

I ended on good terms with most of the guys I dated, but the one that I didn't has been IMing me all morning. DUDE. Are those your wedding pictures from two weeks ago on your FB? MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE CHATTING ME UP, BRO.

Good hell.

I'll probably do that V-Day thing. Unfortunately, my sweetheart doesn't have LJ. Or FB. And I had to teach her how to use gmail as an IM.

...

I really need to get her up to speed.

Also, quick dessert from Marek:

1. Take plate, any size.
2. Put on boots, jacket.
3. Run through the blizzard (YES! I have on of those right now!) to shop.
4. Buy wafer sheets, plum jam and chocolate spread.
5. Run back home (COLD!).
6. Defrost your limbs.
7. Mix spread with jam. Spread over wafers. Cut wafers into triangles.
8. Drink with hot tea and pray to the Pagan gods that you survive another winter.

Also, I, too, took time from more important projects (thesis? Bah, humbug!) to write fanfiction today - it's already posted on my LJ and it's about a videogame you probably never played and my Anna says she hates me for creating an uberwoobie for a game where you fly around and shoot stuff.

Quick Peanut Butter Fudge

1/2 cup butter

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and milk. Bring to a boil and boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla. Pour over confectioners' sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat until smooth; pour into an 8x8 inch dish. Chill until firm and cut into squares. Devour until you can no longer feel your face ;D

Where I come from (West Virginia) we takes our biscuits Very Srsly.

Here is a PROPER recipe for Biscuits (all in the name of love, you know, Fab Feb Friends yummy recipe sharing etc. :)

Dump this in your food processor with the choppy blade:
2 cups flour (half wholewheat makes a tasty, healthier biscuit)
dash to 1/2 tsp salt, depending on your sodium tolerances
3 tsps baking powder
Pulse to sift.
Add 5 tbls Butter (softened in microwave 9 seconds) and pulse to blend.
Pour in 3/4 milk and pulse to mix.
Voila! Biscuits.
Cut with an empty soup can. Makes one dozen. Bake at 400 12 -14 minutes.

Variations; this is also a scone recipe. But as scones, they are a little dry. They go well with coffee.
For Chocolate Scones, add 3 tbls cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbl sugar to dry ingredients, add 2 more tbls extra butter, then as many chocolate chips as you like right before the milk.

For sconier scones, use more butter, cream instead of milk, and add 1 tbl sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. You can stir in nuts, choc.chips, orange zest, etc for yummy inclusions.

To make a heart shaped biscuit cutter, empty a tuna fish can, cut out the bottom as well, and shape the ring into a heart. :)

But! #2! I'm ALL about sharing recipes and welcome any and all to come my way! (I bet if you substituted the reg. milk for buttermilk they'd be so good you'd slap your mama. Mmmm, breadstuffs!) I love the variations you added, too, YAY.

On Monday morning when I came down to make breakfast I found we were COMPLETELY OUT OF BREAD and I totally had to make pancakes. (Yeah we were also out of granola, and even out of emergency back up Ramen noodles. ) If I did not keep Baking Powder on hand, I would have to throw in the towel. :)

I do not currently have either self-rising flour or cream! Sounds good tho!!

Ax Handle biscuits are apparently a Virginia thing that you eat with ham, just a mixture of Flour and Lard that you beat with an ax handle!!! I actually have never tried it, but I am a fan of Lard in baked good (esp. bacon drippings in cornbread nom nom nom. ) I am still rolling about on the floor, gnashing my teeth in envy over your big annual Fill the Deep Freeze with Game post, as this was how I was raised and now I live in the NO HUNTING suburbs!!

I read an article about the new version of the Kindle and a remark from one fan made me think that I need to get my mom a Kindle -- she said that with her arthritic hands, the Kindle was a godsend. (I guess any ebook reader would be as well.) She had gotten such bad arthritis in her hands that holding any book, even paperbacks, was painful. The ebook reader was not! My mom can no longer read hardbacks, and I wonder whether she is finding paperbacks difficult now. I will ask some delicate questions when we are in Florida during the coming vacation week and find out...

From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
It is DEFINITELY a boon for people with arthritis, absolutely. Not to mention for people with poor eyesight, as well. You can on the fly change the size of the font for whatever you're reading. Nice!

And the cool thing with an eReader, you can pass it off as if you're trying to keep her hip and with the times, not that you feel she's getting beyond any capabilities. :D

You!!! You own a Kindle! I have a question for you, if I may. I can't find anyone I know that can answer this for me.

With your Kindle, can you upload Word doc's from your very own PC to your Kindle?

ie: would I be able to put read my fanfic on it?

This is the only thing that's been holding me back from getting one, because I want an eReader I can put fanfic docs and pdfs on.

Date: 2009-02-17 03:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
I don't know about word docs straight to your Kindle, I don't think so. HOWEVER. There are all sorts of programs out there (freeware) that convert your files to the Kindle format, not to mention that you can email the file to your Kindle through your private Kindle email (if you buy one, you get one) and Amazon will convert it for you and for $.10 send it to your Kindle. OR, you can have them email it to YOU and you just move it over with a USB.

All of that stuff is on their site, if you want a more comprehensive list of what you can/can't do. I've moved .txt files over with no problem.
