FRIDAY!!

Dec. 9th, 2011 12:26 pm
I don't know why I'm so excited for Friday, I don't have a desk job. BUT HEY, OUR CULTURE DICTATES THAT I SHARE JOY. And so I do. I'm in a fabulous mood, brought on by an excellent 2 hour massage yesterday (and the knowledge that I have another scheduled for next Friday and the Friday after...) Dude. This chick tore into my glutes and quads, just stripping those muscles of all the little ouchies and I felt like I was made of pudding afterward. Hurt so good. (It only hurt because I hadn't been in for months. Regular massage keeps everything lovely. And your skin thanks you, too! Bye bye, cellulite on my booty.)

And then I ruined it by doing a million-fifty squats and lunges today. HEY, I'M KEEPING HER IN BUSINESS.

Also, I am in the final edits for this redonkulously huge story I've been writing (huge for me) and will start posting on Monday and finally be done. Are we finished, Buffy? *cry*.

Also 2, John Ralphio said "butthole" last night, and I freaking love that character. Parks and Rec, one of the tightest comedies on TV, hands down. No wasted characters, not ever. <3

Also 3, I am not on my own PC, so I can't resize images (nor touch them up, stupid netbook with barebones on it, argh!!) but for those curious about the fake-out Kindle cover I made, it's under the cut. 5 pics, they're big, and I'm not 100% in love with it, but it's serviceable fo sho.

What a weird book, OH SNAP, IT HAS A KINDLE IN IT. )

Now I'm hungry. YO DESEO TACOS.
Porn. Wait, no, fast transmission and sharing of information!
  • Attn: Kindle readers! Did you know that a company is making really slick covers to fit your Kindle 1 and 2? I didn't! And they're under 50 bucks and are gen-you-wine real leather. Pretty! I prefer the cobalt blue or the mocha with camel strap. <3
  • Attn: wanna be Kindle owners! You can own a cheaper eReader right now instead of waiting in line! You won't have free wireless or the upcoming Whispersync of the Kindle, but you can have an eReader that's less expensive and hosts formats of books the Kindle doesn't! For $300 US bucks, it's yours. That link also takes you to loads of eBooks to peruse, as well. [eta] I've been told they are fragile and the warranty is a MUST. All the more reason to stick with a Kindle, imo.
  • Want homemade biscuits, but don't have loads of ingredients? Check out these TWO INGREDIENT biscuits. No, really. Self-rising flour + cream = biscuits!

Wanna do something for people you love/internet love on Valentine's Day? [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn hosts a Love Fest every V-Day. Here's how it works, and remember: it's about SHARING love. But because good things come to those who wait, you just might get some love back.
  • Email her at svmadelyn@yahoo.com by 12 noon CST, 2-12-09 with an alphabetized list of people on the internet that you love.
  • Say something lovely about them, such as: username is the nicest, funniest person with a heart of gold! or what have you.
  • You can comment on up to 14 people.
  • On the 14th, her journal will link to a website that has an alphabetized list of all the folks that got "valentines" and you can search for your name, or just read about all your friends and feel joy for some folks that could probably use a nice day.

This is about sharing your love for others, so the way I see it, it's a win/win!

ION: I am determined to not be a lazy git today and accomplish many house cleaning chores, outdoor happiness now that the storms have passed and the sun is out, and some bread baking. I need some kind of brownie-type goodness, too, so feel free to link me/c&p your favorite hand to mouth dessert item in comments. (Hahaha, DANCE FOR ME!) :D Oh, let's not kid ourselves. I'm going to write a Choose your Own Adventure parody fic and never get out of my pajamas, I'm sure. NO! I WILL BE DILIGENT! ...send recipes.

...and energy bars.

[eta] I seriously think Facebook needs to change its name to "Ghost Of Boyfriend Past." There are some dudes that I just don't need to remember. Especially when time isn't kind to them, yikes.

[eta2] i know, I'm being a spazz, but this video is BEAUTIFUL as is the song, and the coolest thing is that it was directed by one of the production crew for St. Nick, my movie that premieres at SXSW in March. Way to go, Toby! I love it.
To make up for the book autopsies (I don't really apologize for that, but I needed a segue...) here is a link that takes you to the most comprehensive list (and pictures!) of the world's most beautiful and intricate libraries. Clear some space, it'll take you a while to go through them all, if you've not seen this before. Oh, so lovely. I loved the chained books in one of the older places. That web blog, Curious Expeditions, is one of my favorite places to visit online. Part Steampunk, part travelogue, this couple posts some of the more thoughtful and through provoking posts you'll find. This link in particular strikes my fancy - it's a flickr set from a museum in Austria that made all of the creatures out of blown glass, instead of traditional taxidermy. Outstanding.

I still think Jay Walker's personal library is one of the most amazing in the world, simply because he has things like Sputnik in it. The actual Sputnik.

Today is Chinese New Year! Happy Year of the Ox! Here's what the kids and I are eating (so far) tonight: Happy Niu [ox] Year! )

I am FREEZING today. Yesterday I tried to race ahead of a cold front and get my onions and potatoes in, which resulted in me spending about 8 hours cleaning up the garden and adding an additional 600 pounds of compost. I'm so sore and my hands are beat to hell. This morning I didn't help things by attempting to go walk in sleet (dumb) so I have hot coffee, my Kindle (reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Anyone checked that out?) and a warm bed. I think I'll spend most of my morning there. Brr.

Oh, one last thing! Everyone's picking up on this in Big Love: "Kansas" is the YFZ ranch in Texas? I snort every time they say the Kansas compound. Ha.
Back from NYC after a fantastic weekend of laughing my butt off with [livejournal.com profile] dovil. I highly recommend that everyone have their very own Kiwi, incidentally.

I have to say this first, because it's SO FREAKING INSANE that I'm still boggling over it. I hired a car to pick me up Thursday morning to take me to their leader the airport, at 6 am. Which means I'm up at 5 to shower, etc. Which means I'm not focusing on anything but not falling over, because that is too early to rise, that's a stumble in time. Anyhoo. I laid out my clothing the night before on the edge of my tub, because I'm weird and like to be organized. I get in the shower, finally open my eyes, throw on a robe and get my coffee. Come back to the bathroom to get dressed/etc. and there are ANTS SWARMING MY BRAND NEW SHIRT. Ants.

!!!!

I gingerly pick it up by my fingertips, toss it in the laundry, and hope I can wash it, remove the evil, and dry it in time to get to my waiting car at 6. Get it out of the wash and the ANTS ATE HOLES IN MY SHIRT. I mentioned brand new? Pulled the tags off the night before, laid it down?? What the hell?! Just the day before I made the house SPOTLESS, so there was nothing to bring any creature in uninvited. And I don't have an ant problem. Except for how I do! What on earth?? And I'm out a totally cute shirt that I never got to wear. Woe.

More bullet points on how to not behave on an airplane )

Dovil! Or: how to spend a weekend with a New Zealander and keep your kidney functioning )

Books! )

Since everyone seemed to post a bunch this weekend, I'm probably not going to be able to go back through the ol' flist, so if you have exciting news, updates, etc, lemme know! (And man, after being in front of the Lehman Brothers building as their executives filed out with boxes of their stuff, can I say how glad I am to no longer work in the stocks trade? What a week. R, I'm thinking of you in particular!)
Last night I went to bed, wanting to read a bit on my Kindle before getting z's, and I saw that someone laid it upside down. I couldn't get the screen saver to go away, couldn't get anything to load, and when I turned off the Kindle (it had been turned on unbeknownst to me) the screen saver was STILL THERE. Oh my god, I got burn-in! I've not had it for a full week yet!!! I plugged it in to the charger, with plans to take the battery out and see what I could do in the morning.

It worked this morning. Um... it was just out of juice, is all. *head desk* I tossed and turned all night thinking my new present was busted. I will say this: I've had that thing running since Saturday morning and it didn't need to be charged until Thursday. That's better than my cell phone! (All children have had their lives threatened if they touch my Kindle again without permission. Esp. if they leave it on and UPSIDE DOWN on the screen. Gah!)

This morning was made even better than I expected because the BOOZE FAIRY CAME! (I didn't know there was one!) [livejournal.com profile] germaine_pet? Your gift came, you sweetheart!

Click to see the libations! And the funny package sticker, ha ha )

Today is school clothes shopping because it's Tax Free Weekend, yay! A whopping 9 bucks per 100 spent in my pocket. That's a movie ticket! :D (Margaritas at mi casa later today, bbs!)
