I blame D & D for infecting me with demons. Anyone have a vorpal sword to smite them with? (Ahahaha, thanks for the awesome "D&D will cause suicide" links, sdwolfpup!)

I never played D&D but at university a group of us used to eat lunch in the Quad while upstairs the D&D players used to be yelling and screaming while the NORMAL (pro-marijuana group) used to meet up next to them. All I know is that they're an excitable lot and I always had the munchies.

Truth be told all the female RPG players I've met really were more into World of Darkness (Vampires, Werewolves, that kind of thing) than D&D.

But it's funny how it's always the same. I've read stuff on how comics were going to ruin teens in the 40's or 50's, Rock n' Roll later, D&D, Rap, Video Games...

I gotta tell you, as someone who also grew up isolated in religiosity, I enjoy your posts SO much it's almost sinful. That is, if I believed in all that sin shit. Oh those Chick tracts! That one is a hoot! Sadly, I knew a great guy in high school, a real friend; played D&D with him for a couple of years. He was a missionary brat but never had a problem with playing D&D while we were in high school together. Then after we graduated and went on to college something happened, don't know what... he wrote me later to say that he'd decided D&D was sinful and he couldn't play anymore. :(

Maybe he was bombarded with too many of these Chick tracts.

In any case, our correspondence lagged and then dropped off into oblivion. I mean, what could I talk about with him after knowing he'd turned into someone like that? I wonder sometimes if he ever regained his common sense.

so, D&D was often SILLY for me, as about the half the games i played before i was 15 were in family games.
my mom ran an ultimate Monty Hall sort of game.... so i ended up with +5 Vorpal Rocket Breasts of Returning when i was 14 (she was protesting having to buy me all new bras AGAIN).
she was trying very hard to be Christian at the time (1990, give or take) and she was given the Chick Track, because we all played D&D.
her first question was "why didn't that girl just roll up a new character?"
her second was "why don't you kids learn how to do this? you could mind control your father to pay more child support"

if i COULD have learned that spell, i would have had a MUCH cooler prom dress...
