I have an audition later today that I'm really looking forward to: voice over work for a new cartoon. WHEE! They want me to go in and lay out a bunch of cartoony voices for them to keep on file for future projects, too. One of my dream jobs has always been voice over work. Like, could you imagine the awesomeness of working with Frank Oz? That would be insanely amazing for a dork like me.

Dream Jobs:

  • writing for The Onion (I don't care if it's doesn't pay but beans, it's The Onion!)
  • writing for TDS/Colbert Report (if only for the company you'd keep)
  • writing for SNL (this was always #1 for me)
  • major acting role where I get to showcase that I can be both funny and serious
  • being paid to be me, just eating and walking around my house - hey, it's a DREAM job
  • voice over work for Sesame Street (back when it was cool)

Anyone about my age remember the opening to Sesame Street in the 70s where they had that little blonde haired girl running in a meadow in just her underpants? "Somebody come and play/somebody come and play today" I wanted to run around without a shirt in my underoos (Wonder Woman and Daisy Duke) and my mother was scandalized.

And now that I'm older, I'm kinda weirded out by that, too. [/random]

But enough of that, I have to work on my crazy voices that my family has talked in for years, yay! :D

[eta] I read an article that's really interesting about the publishing world, and how class privilege affect the literary world. Really good stuff. [para. 3 is where it hits on this directly] Moonrat talks more about this from an insider's perspective.

Break a leg! Isn't that what your saying when wishing someone good luck? Funny saying that. :-)

Hahaha, yep, that's what you say! There are two theories about where that came from:

During Shakespeare's time, actors would get "tipped" with coins being thrown on stage after the play was over. So an actor would "take a knee" and bend down to get it, breaking the "leg line" of everyone standing together. Breaking a leg is to hope for you to do well in that instance.

The other refers to wishing good luck actually causing bad luck, so you wish someone bad luck to insure good luck. :) It's like saying "What could possibly go wrong?" means that the worst thing will happen.

Oh! I didn't know that it came from that! Cool!

I remember the "somebody come and play" girl. But then I remember Sesame Street when Snuffy was invisible, when Mr. Hooper was there and before Elmo.

In other words, when it was good? :) Those were the good days when the writers were high and everything was quiet and gentle. And Grover was the loudest muppet. :(

More important than wishing you luck, HAVE FUN!! I've always thought it would be awesome to "be" a cartoon character. /jealous

Oh, Sesame Street. /sigh How I miss the "old" you! I WAS that girl. Okay, not literally as I'm not blonde or old enough, but it was hot and humid and we all totally ran around in our underpants (WW underoos FTW!). Now you can be jealous.

I'm looking forward to the audition, I'm up against some pros, so we'll see. =P

Man, the 70s were great times. Everyone we knew were kinda hippies (or Mormons, but my parents were bad Mormons in the 70s.) I remember playing with my neighbor in her sprinkler in our underoos. GOOD TIMES.

Love Old School Sesame Street! It was really interesting and funky back then. Now, it's the Elmo show. Boring. Good news is that they have the old ones on DVD now. I introduced my kids to it and they like it too. I still like to watch it. Now I need to get the old Electric company with Morgan Freeman.

Elmo came around when my son was born and we no longer watched SS. :( Good thing there's so many of the great old clips online - I'm going to have to pick up the DVDs!

Electric Company! Aww, Easy Reader might be the best super hero ever. <3

Well, I try to remember that any time you audition, you're also auditioning for future parts, so maybe if I don't get this, I'll get something else. I feel pretty good about my performance, but you never know.

They're really interesting, but HAVE A GREAT VACATION!!
