Some changes and a request

Well, huh. This whole reposting capabilities to FB and Twitter is getting a rethink by me. The day I posted my "zomg I will cut you with my knife!" thing, I had a request on another post to be allowed to link to it. And my response was, "I never mind if people link to public posts because...they're...public. Oh. Huh."

So the new mindset within my brain meat is this: if I have a public post, then I have to accept that I've put it out there. HOWEVER. I would appreciate it if you would not repost people's comments without their permission, because that's just the polite thing to do. And if it's a locked post and you repost to FB or Twitter, where snippets get printed out in the public sphere, that's when you'll raise my ire. I will continue to respect other's wishes to not have their things reposted, no worries there.

I'm a big girl that can admit I'm stupid on occasion. :)

Holy torrential downpour, in other news. Apocalyptic levels of rain have been falling since yesterday. At this rate I'll have a pool, but it'll be gross like the pool in Poltergeist. BOO, UNIVERSE. Yesterday we had three, count 'em THREE tornadoes sighted in a triangle around my house. The kids' schools were on lock down and my daughter (#2) texted me frantically, saying she loved me, woe, it was the end. LOL, honey, we're good and you're in a tornado shelter (movie theaters and schools here are emergency tornado shelters - it'll take more than 200mph winds to knock those beasts down.)

We are, as I'm sure you've guessed, completely fine. She's just 13 and never misses an opportunity to burst into dramatic tears.

My bank teller spoiled me for the Big Ending of the latest season of Criminal Minds. I guess the whole "we're just getting into the show and haven't seen all of the episodes" means LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING DRAMATIC THAT WILL HAPPEN AND RUIN YOUR ENJOYMENT. Who knew? =P

I have a kitten scarf right now. Two kittens wrapped around my throat. Before you say "aww!" let's remember that they are heirs to the Darthanne throne, and are probably checking me for weak spots. I will be helpless before them, because they are seriously cute little things. Smidgen wakes me up at one point every night just to put her lips on my eyes. (She's tasting my sweet, sweet eye juices, I know, but AWWWW.)

LASTLY: if anyone has a copy of Nina MC's "Doppel X Chromosom" I would love for you to share it with me. That came out when I was pregnant with Emily and it was all over Germany - where I was traveling at the time. I love that catchy little tune, but can't find it anywhere. (Or any of her stuff - I can't find her here in the states.)

[ETA] Last night the penultimate Louie CK episode had me laughing so hard I was crying. If you've not watched his show (16 eps) you have missed the most wonderful comedian cum tv star show there's ever been.

KITTEH SCARF! When I had a kitten for a little while in high school, his favourite sleeping location was directly on top of my face. If I wasn't lying down, he would climb me until he got to my head and then DIG HIS HIND CLAWS INTO MY SCALP and dangle his face down in front of mine. NO KITTEH STOPPIT. oh my god he was a terror. Awwww, kitteh scarf! Both of mine take turns wrapping themselves around my head at night. One of my cats takes occasional nips on my ankles, to make sure I'm still palatable. I know that the two of them are just waiting for the right moment, or for somebody else to come along and start feeding them, to strike, drink my blood and suck out my soul.

Oh I can't believe she spoiled you. UGH! I love CM. I hope you'll keep watching anyway. Did you catch all the other seasons or are you starting with the current one? Most of the seasons are good, but there are a few awkward eps, early on when they were still getting the feel of writing the team. Also if you haven't watch the older eps, there are some different actors in the early seasons. Enjoy :)

Oh, man, the rain! The rain! It is now gray and muggy and drizzling. It should be near a hundred by the weekend and I bet my glasses will be steaming up and it will be foul again. Oh, Texas weather, you are so baffling.

"Louie" is hilarious. His deadpan delivery is fantastic. We have the last three episodes on Tivo and keep hoping to catch an evening in so we can wrap them up.

Your kittens aren't looking for weak spots, they've already mapped the entire family. Kitten kisses and purring are all about lulling you into submission.

You should check out matociquala's LJ and her tag "geeks with guns"! She is a huge Cm fan and has episode-by-episode recaps and discussion and good stuff there. Not starting from the first season though.

My Dad actually got me started on it he is big Thomas Gibson fan. I think overall it's a strong series, and I enjoy almost every member of the team.

I love Louie. I saw him on his sadly short-lived HBO?? show a while back, but I haven't been watching TV lately, like, AT ALL, since before fall semester started, so I have been missing his new show. :(

My grandma is old school and thinks cats steal your breath when you sleep, and that's why they get in your bed/sleep on top of you/etc. Because my grandpa is old school, too, he blamed my mom's cats for Bell's palsy (she developed it after birthin' my first sister from not sleeping, but she's better now). Because cats are practitioners of the black arts, you see.

To be fair, he figured my grandma hates cats, my grandma has partial facial paralysis, therefore, CATS ARE THE CULPRIT, MY DEAR WATSON, IT'S SIMPLY ELEMENTARY.

Have you tried something like this (http://listentoyoutube.com/)? It's a good holdover if you have to find a way to buy an imported album, etc., or a pretty decent stand-in if you just want (or can only access) individual songs. Some people upload "music videos" (still image against a full song) specifically for a high-quality song rip to be available, so as long as you browse and pick the video with the best audio fidelity (or whichever is your favorite, a particular remix, etc.) you might not be able to tell the difference between downloading that and an official MP3.

The whole LJ/FB/TWiT xposting thing baffles me. So, say you make a comment in a flocked post, and think it's amusing. You then link it to FB. Well, now people can see that comment, and a link to the post. But when they click the link, they get a 'permission denied', because it's flocked. I don't actually get the big deal there.

And i wasn't aware you could post *other people's* comments, just your own. Am i clueless or is that an actual fact? But any flocked post you link to will *still be* flocked, permission denied, etc. And how, exactly, are *your FB people* going to find your lj when a random flisty linked something they said to *their FB*? That means the people *they* know in real life will know their FB friend knows....someone on lj. But they won't know *you*, you don't know *them*, and how does that translate to your rl being mixed up with fannish life?

I'm just confused, because that was the gist of most of the pearl-clutching i saw over that feature and it just...made no sense.

I took the little buttons off, though, 'cause omg annoying, and my FB people could care less about what i babble about on LJ so....pointless.

The Bebe gets all freaked when we have tornado warnings/sirens, too. She goes down to the Lair, which is all good. 13 is so fun!

I personally am utterly repulsed and outraged over the entire lj/failbook/twatter situation because I don't have a facebook/twitter in the first place and I don't want my IRL name or my LJ name to ever, ever appear there for any reason at all whatsoever. I've even asked all my friends with FB accounts not to tag me in the very few photos they have with me in them. It's not so much that I'm worried about real life intersecting with fannish life, it's that I don't want any kind of inadvertent participation on sites that I am very deliberately eschewing.

HAHA NO, it is, as I said, total craziness on my part. I just do not even want Facebook to know my name in case it comes to my house and tries to assimilate me into the faceborg while I am sleeping. (really I just don't want some random person on FB clicking through to read anything I've said on my journal or anyone else's, cause I feel like facebook is some kind of horrible disease to which I would prefer to avoid exposure. Ah, okay, that's cool. I thought i was missing some really key, obvious 'thing' that made it all make sense.

Honestly, i have a FB. It's not in my LJ name *or* my real name. But it's where i talk to my brothers, sister, mom, and far-flung family members who can *just* manage to use it. LJ or other blog-type sites would be beyond them. FB is, at least, geared toward the least common denominator and if my 77 year old mom can navigate it, that's good.

I despise talking on the phone, so FB works for me, and these people do *not* do emails - it's like pulling teeth.

I google my real name from time to time, and nothing links up so far, so - all good! :)

You are the first person I have seen (admittedly I'm seldom on LJ of late) who has come to same conclusion I have. I am friends with about 5 people mutually on FB & LJ both and have known all of them for years. But none of them, save Stoney and Vinnie, know any of my RL friends. Even so, if Stoney were to link to one of my posts, no one on her FB would know my LJ name (except her sister) and no one would care. Crazydiamondsue and my IRL identity intersect nowhere except the LJ people I happen to know in RL.

But I'm a weirdo who tells everyone in their real life that I once wrote fan fic and I don't have a job that could be jeopardized, so my opinion is not the majority, and I realize that.

And I understand linking posts (i.e. Hey this chick wrote a funny Twilight roast -- check it out!) but not comments. WHY would I make my FB status update something like "OMG Laura, Eric Northman shonuf do be cookin' in my book"...why wouldn't I just make that my status update and eschew the LJ connection altogether? I don't get it.

I understand the people with jobs that constitute a conflict of interest (publishing, entertainment industry, etc) being more cautious, but I wrote fan fic when I did work outside the house (education) and told everyone I knew, "I write gay vampire porn!" and NO ONE thought it was remotely interesting, much less titillating or pearl clutch worthy.
