A neighbor, a child, a spouse, anyone. I'm quite the Henny Penny around here. I do have bluebonnets, however! Well, no flowers yet, but the plants are green and getting large, so I should have blooms in a few weeks. YAY SPRING, KEEP IT COMING. A few of the creeping phlox are starting to put out flowers, soon I will have my yearly swath of vivid blue and pink to chase the grey days of winter away.

Two of the cypress trees we planted outside the pool area died this winter. BOO. The nursery is going to give us two more, though, because the owner knows I know what I'm doing - there was clearly something wrong with the trees for them to die so rapidly. That means I get to rip out two 15 foot trees this weekend and put two new ones in. Yay? I need to finish spreading compost and mulch today. I'm earning my wine, is what I'm saying.

Speaking of booze, my recap of last Jersday's Shore is up at Hey, Don't Judge Me. I have never seen so much crying in a man as I have with this frickin' guy, Ron. I didn't think steroids increased lady feelings, huh. Also, what's the adult version of a Pedo-Bear? As in, not after kids, but young women and al creepy about it? Because that is The Situation. He is CREEPY, YOU GUYS.

There should be a bunch more recaps from everyone popping up over the next two days, so keep your eyes peeled (or add it to your reader.)

The Mr. is coming home tonight for a change (he's usually home on Friday) so I'm excited to act like a normal couple with a husband home during the week. OH WHAT SHALL WE GET UP TO? Probably laundry and exhausted sleeping, because we know how to party. Ooh, and finish hanging chandeliers, because we were losers that didn't do that last weekend! YAY SOMETHING EXCITING.

Lastly, if any of you fashionistas/decora-TORs out there know who manufactures , help a girl out. WANT. X a million. (Watch it be Etra or Skagerak, aka completely out of my budget by about 8 grand. Featured in this gorgeous house)

If I was down there, I certainly would! I have loads to do in my garden beds this spring and I would love help too :)

I loves me some gardening, but I am rather bad at it I am afraid. My plants generally fare O.K. though. I have had very few fatalities and they were all winter kills.

I am also amiable to drinking margaritas with gardening dirt on my hands ;) I have horses, sometimes you just eat and drink a little dirty.

Oooohhhh, Stoney! I'd love to help, just as long as there are no buzzing bugs flying around my head... or my, you know. My vulnerable FLESH.

We used to have a garden in the backwoods of WV, and we'd have to wear long sleeves and pants, and those hats with the bee-nets (...I don't know if I'm describing this nicely...) because the gnats were just ATROCIOUS. And they BIT, OWIE.

But then I moved to OK, and gardening was sooo much better, you have noooo idea, and you're in TX, so I assume the weather there is comparable, so yes. Yes, I'd love to help you. :D

We don't have buzzing bugs here! Unless you count butterflies and ladybugs? We don't get those horrid black flies, deer flies, etc.

The big work is just about to start, so come on down. I'll provide lunch. :)

Ah ha ha. Gardening. Where the ticks and the chiggars bite. Leaving me a sad mass of horrible, itching lumps.
*shudders*

I love your re-caps. I also read a Southland re-cap. There seem to be only two, though - did they just start recapping that show, or am i somehow totally blanking on finding the rest?

You definitely should have a couple muscular landscaping guys to help you wrestle trees out of the ground. Like the guys in my icon, say. That'd work. :)

No chiggers or ticks here, I love me some Blackland Prairie. :)

Yes, the recaps of Southland just started - but you bring up an interesting idea of backdating older recaps, hmmm... Thanks for that!

I would be happy to accommodate those fellas. I mean, if you're going to force them on me.

I should say, there are no chiggers or ticks in my neighborhood - they're out in the country, but I live where it's all civilized. ;)

Luuuuuuuucky!! Chiggers are the bane of my summer existence. Dear gods. Thanks, Dad, for that fun genetic quirk wherein a nominal bug-bite becomes a horrifying lump of itching hell that lasts for weeks.

Um yes. Yes i am. In fact, not only am i going to force you to work with two fit, gorgeous young men, but i'm going to force you to invite them for relaxing drinks and pool-time when you're all done.

Get those margaritas mixin'!!

I love the mid-century vibe of that dining set. Our outdoor set is a 50's wrought iron number that needs a paint job.

Ronnie's weeping shouldn't make me laugh, right? I am obviously made of stone.

Isn't that set gorgeous? (I knew you'd like it, too. *g*)

You know, Krylon actually has some amazing enamel spray paint that sharpens up wrought iron, if you ever thought of going with color. They also have a sealant for iron, to protect it from rusting. That's a lot of work, I don't envy you.

Oh my god, I had so much fun mocking his steady stream of tears, you have no idea.

Somehow Smith and Hawken went out of business when I wasn't watching; too bad, as they were a reliable source for really good outdoor furniture.

In my next life, I want that indoor/outdoor space; as it is I have a nice little terrace out of the wind where I've put a cheap and tacky powder-coated steel double bench with trellis that will, if the weather ever cooperates (it's snowing now: I askyou!) will support the winter-blooming Clematis balearica.

Julia, dry places to sit out of the wind are about as good as my landscape design gets.

Whoa, they did? I had no idea!

That tumblr with all of the pictures of the home in Cypress - that is one of the few places I could be convinced to move - as long as it came furnished as shown. :)

I would totally garden with you if I lived closer, as long as you didn't mind that you'd have to tell me what to do! My biggest challenge in gardening is figuring out what I "should" be doing to keep things alive.

Mostly you just need to make sure you understand the light you get in your yard (I had a woman swear to me up and down that her lawn - ringed with live oaks - was "full sun" because there were patches not covered with trees *facepalm*) and not overwatering - those were the two biggest reasons for plant death when I was with the Extension Agency.

I'll have your thumb so green you wouldn't know what hit you! ;)

I will bake you a red velvet cake EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE if you come be my gardening buddy, omg. (Oh, I don't really garden in the summer, I just let shit grow. Spring and fall clean up, that's it for me!)

OMG will melatonin help? Or massive quantities of heroin? *sad face times a million*

Date: 2011-02-23 10:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elizardbits.livejournal.com
but then i will be all fat and farty which is suboptimal for everyone but mostly me me me. you will have to use ~special butterses hooray

melatonin doesn't work, it just gives me heartburn. i think i have some xanax around here somewhere, which is really the best, as sleeping pills give me night terrors, but tbh i will prolly go with vicodin because it is the least side-effecty for me of all possible sleepymaking things. *weeps*

srsly i threw up and cried at work today. i am drooling kind of absentmindedly right now. 3h a night every night for the past weeeeeeeeeeeek sobbity woe

also the entire maniac text of this comment is pretty much identical to all the business emails i sent today, go me

No no no, gardening (like I do) burns so many damn calories, you can eat all the cake you want! Dude. I live on nachos and margaritas and can still wear an S. \o/

I can't do sleeping pills, either, they give me nightmares, too, then I wake up at 4am and can't go back to sleep. Oooooh, except for lovely lovely Vicodin - I get why people have addictions.

What about a massage and a glass of wine and then a Vicodin? Or am I just telling you my plans?

I actually just emailed the architect (that's his home!) to find out the maker. There's the one pictured, a 6 seater in his kitchen, and a four top on another terrace. BEAUTIFUL.

I have day lilies, bluebonnets, phlox, blue bells, and the grasses starting to green up. That's the little "sorry" from Mother Nature for those of us that endure a Texas August. ;)

An architecht's home? Then it's possible he designed the set himself. Either way, post when you find out, I'd love to know.

Could be, but since the home is so expansive (there are about 15 more pictures on another website aside from the ones in the link above) I'm hoping not. I'll be sure to post, then!

BLUEBONNETS! Awwwww!

I would try to help garden, but I would mostly poke things helplessly with a spade and then say, "You want me to lift a forty-pound bag of what now? D:" But, remember, tequila and bath bombs!

You're so lucky to have such a gradually-unfolding spring! We tend to get spring for a day or so, and then it is on to summer grossness with humidity.

Date: 2011-02-24 02:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
Oh, you don't have to lift if you'll keep me company! That's mostly what I want. :(

Ahahahaha, we have about 2 weeks of spring, then it's off to summer and the 90s - 110s, so I'm thinking I'd be in HEAVEN in a New England summer. <3
