I took my daughter, her BFF, and the BFFs mom (a friend of mine, thankfully!) shopping at some hip resale shops in Dallas (Dolly Python - I love that place) and if the lighting had been better for photography, I would have flooded your flists with images of amazing cut away coats and jodhpurs from 1890, and some really spectacular Mexican dresses from the 40s.

I did laugh at my daughter and her friend's enthusiasm over Roper boots with a kiltie. (Anyone? Bueller?) That was what the Goat Ropers in high school went bananas for (those and some Rocky Mountain jeans for that heart-shaped ass look). And let's get real here: goat ropers are so much more down to earth than barrel-racers, amirite?

*crickets* Any way... Take the kiltie off and they look like a more pointy-toed Doc Marten. And they're outstanding footwear. Still, I snerked.

I started watching White Collar the other night. I've had a tiny crush on Matt Bomer since he was the "villain" of Chuck's pilot episode, loved him after he was on Glee, and now that I'm watching him smirk and be the Most Charming Man On Planet Earth on this show, I would like to be baptised in the religion of Bomer. It's unreal how he manages to look like perfection and not be from another galaxy. HOW DO YOU HANDSOME. It's also a fun show. I don't feel fannish, but it's something I've been looking forward to watching at night when everyone's settled down.

NOW PLEASE TAKE MY POLL TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND HUMANS AND THEIR BEHAVIOR and there are questions about tacos.

[Poll #1861673]

I really need a taco icon. (I had fantastic tacos yesterday for lunch, can you tell?)

Oh! Two last things, if you need reading material. 1. Teen Wolf is now at HDJM, and trust me when I say that you will love Liz's recaps, regardless of being in the fandom. 2. I wrote a short ficlet and posted it on Sunday, Klaine Fluff: "I Will Always Feel The Same.". :)

I would take this poll except for the fact that you are ageist and refuse to allow me an option to not lie about my age...

YOU CAN LIE ABOUT YOUR AGE BY CLICKING THE WRONG TICKY BOX.

Clearly your thinking on lying is too rigid.

Tacos are like cheese. I LOVE good cheese. Something high end, well made with love, aged and tasty. But. Every so often, I get an inexplicable graving for Easy Cheese (spray cheese in a can). I'm not proud of it, but sometimes I want that awful, fake nostalgic taste of the thing I grew up with.

So I LOVE a good, authentic, tasty, tender, well made taco. LOVE IT. But...every so often, I want that awful, cheapo hard shell, barely spiced up ground beef monstrosity that was served to me so many times in public school. Just once in a while. In darkness and shame. :)

ETA: Also, regarding concrit. While on the one hand, I know what concrit is and it's something I'm very comfortable (and dare I say, good) at giving to my friends, in the writing process, unless someone specifically asked me, it's not something I'd EVER give to a posted, presumably finished piece, if only because the author is usually DONE with it, at that point and I'm not the story police. I don't mind receiving concrit and I'll point out typos, but I'm usually not comfortable giving it on a finished piece.

Oh, there is no question that there are times when you just need a flippin' cheap and easy Taco Bell taco. Sure, you may hate yourself after, but the cronch! *sad face*

The one where I just give my husband the most horrified look is when he gets a JACK IN THE BOX TACO. I should say "taco." I usually close my eyes, shake my head, and say, "You are so clearly born from the loins of a woman from Indiana. Shame on you."

It's easy for me to get good tacos here (I mean, durr) but sometimes when you're in particular parts of the city, there's no quality taqueria and you have to submit. And then rock in a dark corner, promising yourself you'll never do it again.

But you will. You will.

WHITE COLLAR. I'm excited that you're watching it. I am in the midst of a White Collar renaissance. I was never in the fandom, I just knew a lot of people there and I liked the show a lot, but now I am reading all of the Neal/Peter/El OT3 fic and I have the backstory of this big Glee crossover 'verse all mapped out in my head that I will never write in a million years.

Theriouth Poll of Theriouthneth!

A taco with a soft flour shell is a burrito NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!

OMG I never liked mexican food (I was raised in the Pacific Northwest) until I moved to Arizona. Love AZ Mex, NM Mex, and Tex Mex as well. But what's really great is finding a great little mexican place that serves Interior - omgomnomnom.

Re Fandom:

I dunno, I wouldn't call myself into fandom, but I like me some good fan-fic. SO I guess I am. Into it, that is. YOU. I love your writing and I have not yet been steered wrong from your recs.

I also just bought season 3 glee and I'm contemplating having a three season marathon. I may be a while. Send tacos.

"A taco with a soft flour shell is a burrito" LET ME LOVE YOU. (Or it's Tex-Mex, but that depends STRICTLY ON THE FILLING. AKA: my beloved brisket tacos.)

But that's the only one. THE ONLY ONE. I love Mexican cuisine, holy smokes. Ocean-side, pueblo-style, old school Mexico city style, Tex-Mex, Cali-Mex, etc. LOVE.

(Are you reading FM's "Near Misses?" I'm telling you, it's the best story in fandom, period. With no offense meant to the great writers I'm friends with, it's just THAT. GOOD.)

I WILL SEND TACOS, OF COURSE. (And happy recaps that have good discussions in them can be found on HDJM, jsyk. ;D) ENJOY SEASON 3! I happened to love it.

Concrit is: something I'm not comfortable doing too lazy to do unless asked for it, and even then they'd better really mean it and I'd better know them well enough to know they'll react sanely, because life's too short to deal with wank from people who say they want critique but... don't. I'd rather lurk in the background and read what I like/close what I don't.

TACOS! NOM NOM NOM. Actually the best place to get them is from the taco truck in West Yellowstone, Montana, which is unfortunately a very inconvenient location for me.

Fannishness--I have one or two people I discuss fandom stuff with, one online and one in RL. I have transferred all my fic to AO3 because I need to draw a line between fandom and the rest of my life, and I comment there but not on LJ. Actually, I mostly read fic at AO3, because it is ridiculously easy to download fic to my nook.

..there are taco trucks in West Yellowstone now?! They most definitely did NOT have them when I worked there years ago! (Although one of the best pizzas of my life was had at Leek's Marina in the Tetons.)

I like to follow WiPs on LJ and read completed stories from the AO3 on my Kindle. But I'm an old school fangirl that loves to share excitement with others. I'm finding that harder to experience, though. It's becoming a smaller and smaller group of RL friends that I have online (ha) that know how I feel about spoilers, hate-meta, etc.

The way I prefer to express my fannishness is:
Writing meta. Sometimes 2 people comment. Sometimes 20. Sometimes LOTS MORE. As long as everyone behaves themselves, that's fine. I'm all about the lurrrve & the analysis - if they want to bitch, they can go elsewhere. I'm in it for the metaphors! (And all the 'feels' as the kids say these days.) Oh and I also do fic and general flailing. But if something hits my buttons - meta it is.

From: [identity profile] stoney321.livejournal.com
"I'm all about the lurrrve & the analysis" - I'm with you! I do not want bitching. That's not to say that we can't have an adult conversation about things that could be problematic, but I don't want people coming into the discussion with an agenda of "I hate this and want you to hate it, too."

I'm having a hard time finding meta for the things I love that aren't coming from a position of "I can't believe I'm even WATCHING this crap, UGH." (They need to just admit that they love it, and then talk about their feelings. Haha.)

My mom grew up on the Mexican border and makes traditional Mexican. I hate it. Can't stand the texture of corn tortillas. Really dislike jalapenos. The whole nine yards. I've found lots of other things to love in traditional (and untraditional) Mexican cuisine, but, sadly, tacos have passed me by.

On the fannish side... Don't force spoilers on me. Everything else is acceptable. With a couple of authors I really adore, I'll read WiPs, but for most, I don't touch it until it's done.

I notice you didn't have series on there. I think of them differently from WiPs, but some people don't seem to. What's your take on them?

Well, I exclusively post serials, so I'm a fan of them! I get irritated by people calling them WiPs. No, they're finished! We're just going the old fashioned route like Sherlock in the newspapers of yore! I find them fun - just enough time to absorb the current chapter and think about it before moving on to the next. I like to take my time with things, though.

Tacos! I'm good with crunchy tacos, I don't come from a family of good cooks and I'm not a particularly talented cook myself. Shell, meat with powdered taco seasoning, cheese, lettuce and salsa! But I found a couple of strip-mall restaurants that I need to check out so that I have a Mexican place to go around here.

I find that I'm usually late to the fandom party, so my experience is more along the lines of lurking, leaving comments three years after the fic has been posted, and learning about the existence of awesome stories that have been taken down in another story's comments. However, I learn more from discussions, even when I'm finding it after-the-fact. So I guess I like a more interactive platform even when I'm just being a voyeur?

I express my fannishness by acting out little mini-scenes with characters while I'm driving around to and from work, sort of a spoken, unrecorded fanfiction? Free-form monologue? Is it still a monologue if I'm acting out more than one character? At any rate, I'm sure it's highly entertaining to anyone passing me on the road...

But if I hear someone talk about a fandom that I enjoy, I might engage in a little bit of squee-ing with them and excitedly chitter about it, if they're someone I feel really, super comfortable with.

Oh _White Collar_ is such a guilty pleasure. Matt Bomer is so handsome it's ridiculous, but I have to say that Tim DeKay is my crush of choice!

As to fandom (I was told to explain in the comments :), I tend to lurk. I love to read meta, commentary, and fanfic, but I don't really know how to create a space for myself here (that's probably just part of my general social ineptitude because I can't do it in outside-internet life either). So I comment on fic and occasionally join in here and there. Overall I only follow people I think are awesome, so it's okay to watch, although I do feel a little like an asshole and/or a creeper for not engaging more.

And hard-shell only for tacos. But no fish - I know people love them, but I like to go old-school, beef only for me! Probably also a nostalgia thing because my favorite fast food growing up was Taco Bell . . delish!

You are one of those fic commenters that I enjoy immensely. Not just on my few stories, but on others as well. You're insightful, clearly enjoying the pairing and how they're being portrayed, and it's just a lot of fun to read your thoughts if we're reading the same story. :D (ftr, I don't think it's creepy for people to lurk in the background.)

I am laughing at my own occasionally contradictory answers to your poll. It depends! Am I watching Buffy or Slings & Arrows? Can I have roasted poblanos on my chicken taco? Maybe I want tamales! (...well, actually, I almost always want tamales.)

You're about to receive a package: it is the KEY TO MY HEART. Also known as tamales. Or poblanos (which are a must on a proper taco - roasted and smokey goodness!)

And this was a VERY SCIENTIFIC POLL OF SCIENTIFICALNESSHOOD. So it's really important that you answer correctly. Or something. (ha)

I think my tendency to approach fannishness the way I did with Jossverse is my hang up. I'm used to the academia-angle, the intelligent discussions, the amazing writers - so many you couldn't swing a lolcat without hitting one. And everyone was HERE.
