Good Morning!

Somehow, I ended up with a whole bunch of new folks on this journal, which.... HELLO! you did read the user info page, right? I'm a complete spazz. Fair warning! And a little reminder that you don't have to ask to friend me, I know there are a bunch of people who just read this space without interaction, which is fine. Commenting and chatting is fine, as always! I know there are some people who do those "getting to know you" fill out thingies, but I haven't had enough coffee in my blood system to be that coherent, so I'm doing it in poll format!
[Poll #700963]
Holy sheet! That's one big poll. I'll wait a few days before checking to see how many people defriended me over that one. WHEEEEEEE!! and I don't look often so you can drop me like a bad habit and there will be no hurt feelings, yo.
*cough* In other news, I may have a new list of Gud Summries coming up - oh lord.*cough* And my lovely, lovely Kako had her baby and is well - even though VERY early, yipes! - and I saw pictures and OH! baby boys!! *so proud of my brave, brave
mskakaako*
[ETA]: It's
ely_jan's birthday?? *kicks semagic for not telling me* Happy birthday! She is a KICK ASS beta, a great person, and I like her bunches. I hope today is one of the better days in recent past, tootsie pop! *squish*
[ETA2:] DAMMIT!! If HP is your fandom, let me have it in comments. I TOTALLY FLAKED, THE HELL? (I was going for the joke, but the JOKE IS ON ME.)

However, I would like to say that I think his Lear was Very Bad - the one they televised - even worse than ...ohgod, I cannot remember his name yes I CAN Robert Stephens's Lear, why is it that old men who are mad and dying always want to be Lear? Wait, I answered my own question. Ian McKellen is doing Lear now, at Stratford)
*wails* I do HOPE so.

Date: 2006-03-30 10:00 am (UTC)Hmmmm. OH OH but Harriet Walter is being Cleopatra I DIE OF THE LOVE. No seriously I am the world's most pathetic H. Walter fangirl (her and Judi Dench, but MOSTLY Harriet Walter). Harriet Walter is brilliant (note to self, Sophie, GET OVER THIS), and she is beautiful and tall and she was in a play with Judi Dench and Toby Stephens and it was all fabulous. Also her Beatrice was the best thing ever and I have frozen my arse off at SO MANY STAGE DOORS.
Oh, you should come visit me. I am so not hard studying or anything. Also I cannot do sentences for some reason, suspect am tired.

Date: 2006-03-30 10:25 am (UTC)Oh JUDI DENCH. I would cry if I met her. How I love that woman. And Emma. And so many others, mostly UK Actresses, funny... Am not familiar with Harriet Walter - DON'T SHOOT - and will remedy this.
I would loooooooove to come out there and have a week of theater going and good food and interesting discussion, YES.
(You should go mock Tom. If you have time. :D )

Date: 2006-03-30 10:28 am (UTC)I have met her!! Twice. She is very small. Possibly smaller than me, and I am tiny. Also she has violet-coloured eyes i KNOW only Mary Sues have violet-coloured eyes, but Judi Dench has them too. Also I liked her husband, Michael Williams? Have you seen Tea With Mussolini?
You SHOULD. It would be great.
(I will! Although at present I am reading what George Orwell had to say about TS Eliot, and finding soap opera slash fanfiction. Oh dear)

Date: 2006-03-30 10:31 am (UTC)Violet! She is Emily Starr, then! And TS Eliot had proper worship for cats, which I approve, and WHAT SOAP OPERA SLASH??

Date: 2006-03-30 10:35 am (UTC)*grins* Brit soap opera slash. Um, Coronation Street? Anyway, I just found out that Mike Baldwin is going to die of a heart attack in the arms of Ken Barlow, who will then kiss him on the forehead goodbye, and I started giggling about how if Corrie was a proper fandom, everyone would be really happy, but there is shockingly little Corrie slash.
Backstory: Mike and Ken are both 60-odd old men who have been rivals since forever (they've both been in Corrie for like 30 years) because Mike married Ken's daughter at one point and also stole Ken's wife, the awful Deidre, and yes. And Ken is Northern Grit and Intellectualism, while Mike is Cockney Wide Boy, but anyway now Mike has Alzheimer's and is dying.
...our soaps are less glamorous than yours, yup.

Date: 2006-03-30 11:05 am (UTC)And I looooooove Brit Soaps. The few I've seen, I should add. I am FOAMING at the mouth with need of This Life season 2. Is not available in my region code, and I have an older DVD player and I am lame and sad with the lack of it.
Ooooh, Coronation Street! I will add that to either Netflix queue or torrent search and see what the fuss is! Am intrigued.

Date: 2006-03-30 11:20 am (UTC)Have you seen EastEnders? That's the BBC's soap (Corrie is made by ITV, as is Cold Feet), which has run since 1985 (and which my Dad makes, sometimes!) and is set in a square (Albert Square) in the East End of London.
They're both patchy, but Coronation Street can be TOTALLY HILARIOUS, because sometimes the writing is just insane. Ian McKellan did a bit part in it because he loves it so much.
OH, and there's a radio soap - can you get Radio 4 or the BBC World Service on the radio/through your computer? You would like Radio 4, I think. Anyway, The Archers has been on every day for 50 years or something. And is amusing and very, very gentle and tame.

Date: 2006-03-30 11:36 am (UTC)I am a bad TV watcher - there are a scant handful of shows I keep up with. I usually have fifty things happening at once, so regular schedules of sitting down and soaking up programs is a rare treat. And most American TV is absolute crap. :D (few rare exceptions: Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Scrubs, Sopranos, Deadwood.)
Currently I am making a habit of watching the new season (for us, at any rate) of Little Brittain, which cracks me up with its awfulness and hilarity. Yeahbut Nobut. And Anthony Head! I have a bit of a crush on him.

Date: 2006-03-30 01:01 pm (UTC)Have you seen the Richard Curtis TV stuff? Like, Blackadder, the Vicar of Dibley etc? You'd like the Vicar of Dibley (and of course you'd like Blackadder, but I'd be surprised if you hadn't seen it). Blackadder is... basically, younger versions of the later Richard Curtis casts. If you like Blackadder, you'll like QI, which is a BBC2 gameshow with Stephen Fry as quizmaster. What about A Bit of Fry and Laurie? I may be preaching to the choir here, but is Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie (House). And it's funny.

Date: 2006-03-30 01:11 pm (UTC)OH MY GOD ARE YOU INSINUATING THAT I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH ROWAN ATKINSON? Blackadder was ALWAYS watched in my house. Chuh, next you'll be telling me of "Jeeves and Wooster" like I are un imbesill. :D
Now. NATURALLY you've watched M*A*S*H. And Seinfeld.
no subject
Date: 2006-03-30 01:24 pm (UTC)*grins* Hmm-mmm, a little Seinfeld, but no M*A*S*H, although I used to be able to play the theme tune for the latter. I loved Frasier.
no subject
Date: 2006-03-30 01:26 pm (UTC)Oh, I loooooved Frasier for its first five seasons. It got a bit formulaic the last two, but still had its moments. Funny, funny. Niles/Frasier were the best neurotic brothers ever.
