1. I'm sad at how few people got the geek code yesterday, but grateful for those that did. And we shouldn't feel shame. We're awesome. hahahaha.

2. I'm trying to write up a query letter for an agency today, an agency suggested by my film agent, who told me to "tell them I sent you." I'm trying to work that in and not sound like a jackass. It's harder than it seems.

3. It's going to be 80 degrees today and I am going to sit outside in my garden and read more of Y: The Last Man Standing, which is freaking fun and page-turning. (For those that asked, it's available now in graphic novel form with 5 issues/chapters per book, 60 issues/chapters in all.)

4. There are big changes afoot, I can just feel it. I'm kind of giddy with anticipation, it must be said. :)

What's wrong with "As suggested by my agent X, I am contacting you..."?
I mean, if he thinks you're good enough, why be subtle about it? You're awesome, they're lucky to have the opportunity to work with you!

Shouldn't that be the attitude?

BTW, IANAAgent, nor have I ever worked in or with anyone in an agency. :D

Well, I want to be smooth about it, and not sound like "LOVE ME BECAUSE WE KNOW THE SAME PERSON." The whole query letter thing is very stressful as it is. You only get one first impression, you know?

I'm soaking up the rays in the front yard, sitting on the our bench swing and reading a mystery. Laundry's on the line, the chard has been harvested for a frittata for supper and all is right with the world! This short window before the mosquitoes come back is my favorite time of year.

I know a lot about query letters! A lot!! You should start out the query by saying something like:


Dear Mr. Pitt:

My film agent, Ms. Jolie, suggested I write to you concerning my mad expose on Mormonism entitled: "God Did Not Tell You to Do That, Dickheads".


Trust me, you won't sound like a jackass. You'll sound professional and also they'll be glad you told them right up front so they don't toss your query to the bottom of the slush pile.

Also, can you give me a rough number of people on the entire planet who would have been able to read that code from yesterday?!?! I'm glad we're not getting graded on this. At least I got the Greedo joke. ::semi-nerdy::

i at first thought that it would say "Han Shot First", but then you went on about how TRUFANS would disagree with the statement, so i decided i was wrong and didn't say anything at all.

which is good :) i would feel very bad had i wrote "han shot first" as the translation to "GREEDO shot first"

at least i was in the right general category.

han shot first. i know, i was at the first showing in CA. my dad held me while standing in line for over 3 hours (i was 4 months old. my dad was DETERMINED i was going to be a sci-fi-geek.) Greedo never shot at all. and you know? i'm ok with that, i was never bothered by Han shooting him, the dialog makes it very clear that if Han hadn't shot him, Greedo would have turned him over to the Imps.
