I'm nice like that.

Yesterday's museum trip was a success, hit two museums plus lunch, everyone was interested in the exhibits (the cubism wasn't a big hit, but hey, they've been exposed. The early stuff was pretty inaccessible, imo.) but we saw the whole city, saw priceless works of art, we ate pancreas! No, we didn't, but we did eat steak fingers and sipped soda and talked about post-modern art and how my kids actually prefer that (or the very literal works from the 15 - 17th centuries. Layers, my kids have them.)

And then I watched many hours of stand up last night and finished with a show where Dane Cook closed (hey, Greg Giraldo was performing, he was awesome. *sadface*) and counted a good three jokes Cook stole. Damn, that's so Carlos Mencia, come on, bro! Imma watch some Patton Oswald and Maria Bamford tonight to cleanse the palate, they are two of my all time fave comics.

True Blood! Less cracky this past ep, right? Oh, it's still with the cray-cray, but it's not the fairy cray-cray. [livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue's recap is up at Hey, Don't Judge Me. She continues to bring the southern hilarity (actual southern hilarity, something Alan Ball lacks on occasion.)

Speaking of recaps, I thought of doing the "two years later" Hoarders ep, but it made me too sad in places. Happy for a few of them (like that sad woman that lived in her diapers, OH MY GOD) but the rest of it... Augh. Sorry. BUT! Glee recaps continue apace, and I've changed up the format so that now there are recipe cards for the cocktails. :D YAY COCKTAILS. Today is the LYING TINA 'TINI, because of Tina's fake stutter. (I'm going back and adding them to all the previous posts, and all recaps are linked to the next one, for ease of clicking. YOU'RE WELCOME.)

This was the ep where Becky and Jean were introduced, so I have FEELINGS on disabled relatives, but I saved most of them for the end (the Drunken Thoughts portion.)

And hey, I know a bunch of you click over there (you don't have to leave comments, I'm not going to harangue you) but you could click on the FB like button, or something. You know, if you wanted to be awesome and stuff. (That helps raise our profile, so you know.) :)

OK, I am STARVING, I've had naught but Special K with a banana at 8am and the Donger need FOOD.

We have fun, that's for sure. I would have been devastated if my kids grew up not liking to read or go to museums/learning centers.

Yay! Even if they didn't prefer that period, it will help them understand what comes next.

Exactly! They had a wonderful display showing how the various brush strokes were achieved, how the brush or handle (or knife) is used, so that was really great, in their opinion.

Oh, very nice! I spent most of my life in museums, I can't help but approve of this. :-)

That sounds like a great day. Yay to exposing children to art. Everyone should do it! Kids brains eat that stuff up!

Agh, I watched a Hoarders marathon over the last couple days and just found it terrifying. Those poor people and their mental illness and their suffering children and their suffering pets. I look at all my clutter and hope my husband never stumbles upon an episode (fortunately it's not on Comedy Central, ESPN or any channel baseball is aired on).

I was going to make a quiche and walked to the co-op to get eggs only to find I'd left my wallet at home! No, I am not going back out there now that it's even hotter. So lame.

It was so much fun, I'm so glad the kids like museums! (Can you imagine being stuck with dull, boring children that don't want to read or learn? I'd swap them out for a bag of magic beans. Lol.)

OMG YOU MADE IT THROUGH THE MARATHON??? I had to bail and clean all the things. I feel so terribly for them, and the children/pets!! Oh, that's the worst part, isn't it?

QUICHE. I need to add that to my "show the kids how to make" list. Everyone loves a Quiche Lorraine! Oh, I hate when I do that, leave my wallet. I'm impressed you walked there, that counts in your karma tally. :(

I have a question about True Blood--should I read the books?

Two things are stopping me from watching the TV show:

1) I'm not good at understanding strongly accented speech. From what I've heard, the Southern accents are very, very strong. This would be a HUGE problem if I watched the TV series; I'd probably miss half of what was being said.

Unless the dialogue in the books is written in dialect, I'd probably understand the books better.

2) I have heard that the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood vampires are, in some way, different. I have heard about the synthetic blood they consume and the fact that normal people know that the supernatural world exists.

However, I have also heard that there is a vampire named Bill who is in a relationship with a human young woman named Sookie. I'm told that Sookie is a strong, intelligent heroine. Unfortunately, some people say that about Bella Swan. And the male vampire/female human thing sounds very familiar.

So. Should I read the books? And if you'd recommend them, can you please tell me some things you like about this universe?

The books and the show are so distantly related, they could get married and not worry about genetic disorders. Aside from names and places and that there are supernatural beings in both, that's about as similar as they are, truly. It's mind-boggling in places.

They have accents, but they're TV accents. Also, they're done by a Brit, a Norweigian, a New Zealander, and an Aussie. :D Watch it on YouTube to see if you can understand it?

These have NOTHING in common with Twilight. Please, this is ME you're talking to.

The best part is that the australian dude is the one with (in my ign'ant yankee opinion) the least ghastly accent - at least now that Rene is dead.

I think Jason Stackhouse sounds totally legit (if not from northwest Louisiana) for southern. They kind of lump everyone into a generalized accent, with the exception of Arlene. She's pure Red River/Sabine.

Rene was TERRIBLE! I was so glad they showed that "So You Want To Talk Like A Cajun!" audio tape in his car.

Oh, considering that you handled the Sparkledammerung, I didn't think it was Twilight-ish. I just meant that everyone doesn't agree on what constitutes a strong heroine.

And wow. I had no clue that the books were so distantly related to the series!

Thanks for the advice! I'll check the pilot on HBOgo.

Nine minutes in and I love Tara. Also, this is the best display of why telepathy would be annoying as hell.

Not crazy about the sex talk, but pretty good so far.

I just ate half a sleeve of Fig Newtons. It's cake and fruit, Laura.

You're the best pimper that ever pimped. I really enjoyed this episode of True Blood. I'm even enjoying the shifter storyline (although they had to give the woman with the worst accent *my* name - pfft!) I'll be happy when we're done with Hot Shot, although it's gold to write about. Did I tell you that I was deeply ashamed not to have thought of the Sex Panther reference until I went to link it on FB and Twitter? They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.

The drink recipe cards are great, I'm still in agreement about cube boobs and it's so hot tonight that I'm making my famous call to the sandwich shop (but it's a local sandwich shop, so yay.)

SUE I LOVE FIG NEWTONS. They are my favorite fruit and cake (they are NOT cookies, agreed. Which means you can still have cookies.)

I thought this was a MUCH better episode, for sure. Wait, a shifter is named Sue/Suzanne? I missed that! (I gloss over the names of some of the made-for-tv characters.)

SEX PANTHER. That was hilarious. I re-blogged that, because I could do no better. Also, it smells like the inside of a fake arm.

I just loaded up all of the drink cards and added screencaps to the top of the posts to jazz it up some.

I WANT A SAMMICH. I'm teaching #2 how to make caprese salad, so there's that? Oh, and I bought a bottle of red (bottle of white!) to guzzle, so scratch the sandwich and bring me cheese, I'll pour you some.

Blonde shifter (the hen at the egg farm) is named Suzanne. Eddie and I watch all TV with the closed captioning on because we are OLD, hahaha. She does that annoying "all southern women speak in a falsetto" drawl. Ugh.

I want to guzzle some wine with you! I'm in a suburban Dallas state of mind. I'm torn between an Okie burger (roast beef with lots of red onions) or a California Club (avocado and sprouts mmmm) but now I want caprese salad! (Random: did you see the pic Eddie posted on FB when he told Jonah to use a fork for his salad and Jonah speared his breadstick and chowed down on that? Classic hilarity!)

AH. I did not pay much attention to her, that whole scene was whack. I'm not that interested in Sam, truth be told.

AVOCADO! Go for that, and tomorrow I'll pretend I'm eating your leftovers when I have my avocado goodies.

(HA! I did. HE IS ADORABLE.)
