I can't write, can't think, I'm filled with ennui, and I want to be out in the garden doing stupid-hard work, but it's going to be 100F, so I shouldn't be an idiot, right? (I have a total of - wait for it - 800lbs of decomposed granite to spread out. Oh, decomposed just means it's been crushed and tumbled so there are no sharp points. I actually like doing this sort of thing, it's great exercise and I like being able to DO it, if that makes sense? But yeah. It's hot.) Bleh.

So! I get to be with my in laws all day tomorrow which means today I am mentally preparing myself for all of the craziness. And so? I POLL!

I really enjoy things about Tumblr. I really hate things about Tumblr, too. It's not a place for interaction, that's for sure (and I'm always *askance* when people try to use it that way.) Um, Tumblr is for scrolling.

I'm with you on Tumblr. I like it for the pretties, but I don't want to interact socially there. It's not easy to do, it's not presented in a way that can be meaningful, so... It's for looking. Which is fine. (Well, you can have A comment, or maybe two, but it gets cumbersome if you want to have a conversation.)

I'm there with you (again - I like being with you, okay, Sam?) on LJ, too. I miss the fun I used to have here, but it requires participants. And there are less of them lately.

Spending a lot of time sorting out my family tree so www.ancestry.co.uk, Genes Reunited and Find My Past. Furthest back is in my mother's family: James Ascroft born 1660, before The Great Fire of London. I can't get over the fact that a)I know his name and b) he lived 6 miles away from where I live. What can I say? My family are just not explorers!

Now... within the greater reddit, is something I always wonder if you would enjoy, namely the subreddit (like a subforum) for Ex-Mormons (http://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon)

Reddit is also where I find news articles, political updates, cute pictures of animals (http://www.reddit.com/r/aww), and things that make me question the intelligence of human beings in the publishing industry (http://www.reddit.com/r/nottheonion).

There is more. You could probably make a subreddit for HDJM and reach a wider audience too.

I do miss the way Livejournal used to be, but there's still enough going on here with my current fandom to keep me coming back. And of course, there are still the friends that I've made over the years. Not all of them still post regularly, but a few do.

Livejournal is still a close third after my other two choices regarding time spent. FB is where most of my friends are now hanging out and I'm housebound/chronically ill so that's how I stay in touch. Twitter is how I network with new people and as I get closer to publication that's important. Livejournal is still my primary blog and I have a separate group of friends here (with some overlap on FB). I'm not remotely as happy with FB in most regards software-wise as I am with LJ (discussions are painful to have without threaded comments) but it's where my peeps mostly are now.

Never was into fanfic though I've enjoyed a few that people have referred me to. Nothing wrong with it, just not my cup of tea.

Not into internet porn. I'm close to menopause and just not feeling it. :)

If friends migrate from FB to something else, I'd leave it in a hot second. I'm at LJ to stay, though, even if it isn't as active. I still read a fair amount here because I get a bunch of feeds here and I do still have some actively posting friends though some went to dreamwidth. I like that LJ is a hotbed of social activism in Russia, that's kinda cool even if it leads to attacks that occasionally shut down LJ for a bit.

I am on Tumblr too but mostly reblog other stuff there rather than actively post. I'm organizing some of my book excerpts on wordpress now, too, in order, bc I felt I needed another space for that. Also on google plus in case FB dies and people migrate there, and am on pinterest where I store all the pretty pictures and recipes.

Caveat: I run a tumblr for an organization, so by default I'm there at least daily setting up the queue with interesting things. I wouldn't be on tumblr nearly as much were it not for that.

After that, what I do most is email a lot of stuff, read random interesting articles/blogs/idek how I got here, and google.docs as I don't have word processing software. Now & again I like to put my faith in humanity into a real tailspin and read the comments on Yahoo! articles. lulz

Tumblr is so weird for fic. Especially those people who insist on having interactive, messy backgrounds with teeny-tiny font, flashing gifs etc. when you're trying to read a post of theirs. Or like, their face as a fixed feature of thier layout, sorry, I don't want to look at your face random person on Tumblr while I'm reading fic. I AM SORRY TO TELL YOU THAT.

It is however where fandom is most active so like, it sucks because it is a good place to put your fic out there and get people reading. Though I've noticed that people are putting in their recs/reactions into the notes of their reblog and it's like, omg tell me you liked it, I swear it'll be great to tell me I'll feel good and be able to figure out what I'm doing right.

It's not a good place to like, add warnings and I was really worried about that when I posted my latest fic and decided to just post the first 2K of the fic and add links to my lj and AO3 at the end as I wanted more explicit warnings at those sites so I wouldn't get someone yelling at me for like, super-double extra warning about the material.

I do sort of communicate with folks on tumblr, sometimes through asks and while I describe Tumblr as an exposed raw nerve that lacks the necessary layers of tissue to sort of calm everyone the fuck down, it can sometimes make up for it.

FYI I manage to read Tumblr without using any add-ons like Tumblr Savior or Missing E. Mostly because I can't look at Tumblr online at work, so I have to resort to my phone. I keep a decent list of folks I like and will unfollow when I reach my breaking point. (Mostly when someone keeps on being an asshole, especially if they're passive-aggressive about it. I tend to like assholes who are upfront about themselves.)

When I'm not reading my other haunts (like Cracked), I am reading probably more Disney blogs than I should admit. My particular favorite is easywdw.com - it's more a free site for people going to Disney World and how to set up touring plans for seeing things (and it's great for that, the guy gives out great advice and I've used his reccommendations twice in the last 2 trips to Disney), but he also writes hilariously snarky reviews and takes tons of photos. I love it when he snarks at other Disney sites and hardcore fans.

I'm finding that the majority of fandom on Tumblr isn't my kind of fandom, so I've resigned myself to playing in my sandbox, get happy when people want to play, but not get upset that I'm not at the cool table. LOL, give me a glass of prune juice and the Blue Bird Special. :D

AND YES TO THE PICTURE ON SOMEONE'S TUMBLR WHEN I'M JUST TRYING TO READ PORN. (Oh, and Readability is my best friend. It converts people's TUmblr posts into basic readable files. YAY.)
